Q1 What is the reason for this recall?

The Recall has been launched as part of a global Takata air bag recall campaign involving multiple manufacturers, the air bag inflator/inflators may have been exposed to moisture absorption over time, causing degradation of the inflator propellant. In the event of a collision, the inflator may rupture and cause the air bag to deploy abnormally, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

Q2 How will I know if my car is affected by a vehicle recall?

You can enter your VIN on our dedicated recalls page to see if your vehicle has been affected. Alternatively, you can always contact your local Mazda Dealer to find out more

Q3 Do vehicles previously repaired need to be recalled again?

During the previous repair a new passenger side air bag inflator was installed to some Mazda6’s.  The passenger-side air bag inflator installed during the initial repair was a like part to the original component. This repair action was taken to eliminate the possible risk associated with moisture absorption over time.  Mazda is now contacting those owners to arrange a permanent fix replacement of the currently installed passenger air bag inflator with a revised type.

Q4 What is the brand of the air bag that is being fitted to my vehicle?

The brand of replacement component depends on the vehicle model. Some models are fitted with brand new replacement Takata components.

Q5 I have now sold my vehicle – how do I notify Mazda?
